Mike Flanagan Puts His Own Spin on Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’
If anyone can be trusted to update Stephen King‘s 1974 novel Carrie, it’s new master of horror Mike Flanagan. After reimagining classics like The Fall of the House of Usher and The Haunting of Hill House for Netflix, Flanagan has now delivered Prime Video an eight-episode expansion of King’s breakthrough best-seller that is both modern and classically King. And by that, we mean scary AF.
A wonderfully sympathetic Summer H. Howell stars in the remake as Carrie White, the titular teen outsider who must contend with the sudden death of her father, horrific bullying at her new high school, and the choking control of her unfalteringly conservative mother, Margaret (powerhouse Samantha Sloyan). Not to mention her burgeoning telekinetic powers and the worst prom night on record.
