Priscilla Pointer, ‘Dallas’ and ‘Carrie’ Actress and Mother of Amy Irving, Dies at 100

Priscilla Pointer, a one-time Broadway actress who went on to appear in several films alongside daughter Amy Irving and as Victoria Principal‘s mother on Dallas, died on April 28, 2025 at age 100. Irving confirmed that Pointer “died peacefully in her sleep” in an Instagram post honoring her mother.
“Priscilla Pointer, May 18th, 1924-April 28th, 2025. Priscilla Pointer, acclaimed stage television and film actress, and mother of David, Katie, and Amy Irving, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100, hopefully to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs. She most definitely will be missed,” the post read.

Pointer, who began her career as a stage actress, developed a career playing mothers in film and TV — after appearing as the mother to Irving’s Sue Snell in 1976’s Carrie, she went on to play a mom to everyone from Diane Keaton in 1977’s Looking for Mr. Goodbar to Victoria Principal on three seasons of Dallas. For 44 episodes, Pointer portrayed Rebecca Barnes Wentworth, mother to Principal’s Pamela Barnes Ewing.
Pointer also showed up in episodes of Cold Case, L.A. Law, and Adam-12. She is survived by her children, Amy, David Irving, and Katie Irving, and several grandchildren.
