Gilligan’s Island is a cherished 1960s sitcom that premiered on Sept. 26, 1964, and starred Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr., Dawn Wells, Tina Louise, Russell Johnson, Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer. While the show only aired for three seasons, it became a classic and is still one of the most-watched nostalgic shows today.

Building an Island

Gilligan’s Island was filmed at CBS Studios in Studio City and the lagoon was constructed in the back of the lot. When not filming, it was drained to be a parking lot. Only the pilot was filmed on location in Moloaa Bay on the island of Kauai.

The Wellingtons

The Wellingtons performed several title songs for shows, including Gilligan’s Island. They were first signed by Walt Disney to record the theme song for Disney’s The Wonderful World of Color and recorded several theme songs for Disneyland Records. Not only do they sing the theme song of Gilligan’s Island, but they alsoappeared in an episode as a rock group called The Mosquitoes.
