‘Cheers’ Writer Finally Confirms What Happened to Sam’s Bar
With the recent Frasier reboot, fans began to wonder, whatever happened to the characters from Cheers and the memorable bar? While Frasier Crane has not visited his former watering hole in the reboot series and is not expected to, one of the writers confirmed that the bar is still open. Cheers co-writer Ken Levine explained on a recent episode of his podcast called Hollywood & Levine.
He shared, “Frasier makes a couple of off-handed comments about Cheers, but you’re going, Cheers was so much a part of his life, how can he not be returning there? Did he hate it? Apparently not. Sam’s still there, and Norm is still there, and Cliff, maybe Woody.”
Frasier star Kelsey Grammer once mentioned that the writers didn’t want to revisit Sam’s pub, but never made it clear why that was. Perhaps they don’t want to show the same characters doing the same thing so many decades later. Older men sitting around a bar complaining just like they did many years ago might seem kind of sad at this point.
Even so, the Frasier reboot is set in Boston so there is always a chance that Dr. Crane could make a stop at the bar in future seasons. Even if that never happens, it may ease the minds of fans that the writer said the bar and its patrons are still there, where everyone knows your name.
The first season of the reboot premiered in October on Paramount+. The 10 episodes received some mixed reviews from critics and fans but for those that love the nostalgia, will there be a season 2? As of now, another season has not been confirmed so stay tuned! Would you like to see Frasier visit the old bar from Cheers and reunite with some of his pals? Let us know in the comments!
