UPDATE 11/17/23

The rumors are true… sort of. While the group has not confirmed they are getting back together, they did work on a brand-new song that will be featured in the upcoming ‘Trolls Band Together’ film. The song, called “Better Place” is out now and it is their first new song in over 20 years. The group recently reunited to appear on the red carpet for the film’s premiere. At the event, Lance Bass shared, “It was unexpected to be doing a song this year, [but] it’s been incredible. Justin is the executive producer of the soundtrack of the movie, and it just made sense for us to get involved this year because of what the story is about. So he found this amazing song and we immediately fell in love with it.”

They’re tearin’ up my heart if this rumor is false. If you’re a Millenial like me, you probably grew up loving boy bands, and *NYSNC was definitely my favorite. Justin Timberlake said “Bye Bye Bye” to the group to start his solo career in 2004 and *NSYNC called it quits for good in 2007. While the group members — Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and JC Chasez — have gone on to do their own thing, some of them reunite every now and then for nostalgia’s sake, and they all remain good friends.

Fans, however, are quick to notice that the new marketing materials for the upcoming Trolls movie might be hinting at the band getting back together. On posters for the new Trolls Band Together movie, the *NSYNC logo can be seen on it. A QR code on the poster takes fans to a website promoting the film with a whistling tune. Perhaps it is just a nod to Timberlake, who is back to reprise his role as Branch in the animated film, but perhaps it’s even more?

The new movie will focus on a boy band called Brozone. The troll Floyd, voiced by Troye Sivan, says in the trailer, “Branch, we’re out of sync. We’ve gone from boys to men, and now there’s only one direction for us to go: to the back streets.” Another nod to *NSYNC? (actually One Direction and Backstreet Boys, too!) But, just this year, Bass said that he was definitely open to reuniting with his former bandmates.

Baas said, “Never say never. I mean, who knew we were going to be doing Coachella a few years ago? I think it just has to be the right time; we all have to be inspired in the moment. But I do think the world needs something again from ‘N Sync. I always feel bad that there was no ending, because we didn’t have a final show, we didn’t have a final tour, because we didn’t know it was the final days. I think we owe it to the fans to give them something at some point. I just hope it’s before I’m 80 years old.” And we do, too!

What do you think? Do you think they would ever reunite or is Timberlake too famous these days?
