Svengoolie’s October 2026 Schedule Has ‘The Munsters,’ ‘Body Snatchers’ & Plenty of Oz
Svengoolie‘s favorite month is here! October is on the horizon, which means Svengoolie is getting a full month of Saturday night double features on MeTV. This year’s Halloween BOO-Nanza includes everything from Universal Monsters and alien pods to Joan Crawford and The Wizard of Oz.
Most Saturdays begin with Svengoolie at 8 pm, followed by the Sven Squad and House of Svengoolie at 10:30 pm. However, October 3 and Halloween night both kick off at 7 pm with Svengoolie hosting The Wizard of Oz. On Halloween, Sven is sticking around for both movies instead of handing things over to the Sven Squad. Here’s what is coming to Svengoolie in October.
October 3: The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Everett Collection
Svengoolie is starting October somewhere you probably wouldn’t expect: the Land of Oz. Beginning at 7 pm, Sven hosts The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, who gets swept from Kansas to Oz along with her dog Toto. The special is part of MeTV’s big return of the 1939 classic to free broadcast television. The network says the film had not aired on free broadcast TV since its final CBS telecast in 1998.
At 10 pm, the Sven Squad takes over for House of Svengoolie with 1940’s The Invisible Man Returns. Vincent Price stars as Geoffrey Radcliffe, a man sentenced to hang for a murder he didn’t commit. An invisibility drug gives him a chance to escape and find the real killer, but the drug comes with a dangerous side effect.
October 10: Munster, Go Home! (1966)

Everett Collection
The Munsters are headed across the pond on October 10. Munster, Go Home! airs at 8 pm and reunites Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo, and Al Lewis as Herman, Lily, and Grandpa Munster. Herman learns that he has inherited an English estate and the title of Lord Munster, so the family heads to England to claim it. The movie gave fans something they never got from the original black-and-white sitcom: the Munsters in color. It was filmed in Technicolor and released theatrically in 1966, shortly after the TV series ended.
Then at 10:30 pm, House of Svengoolie presents 1967’s Berserk. Joan Crawford stars as Monica Rivers, the owner of a traveling circus where performers suddenly turn up dead. Ty Hardin, Diana Dors, Michael Gough and Judy Geeson also appear.
October 17: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Everett Collection
Svengoolie presents Invasion of the Body Snatchers at 8pm on October 17. Kevin McCarthy stars as Dr. Miles Bennell, who returns to the small California town of Santa Mira and begins hearing strange stories from patients who insist that people close to them are no longer themselves. He soon discovers that giant pods are creating emotionless copies of the town’s residents. Dana Wynter, Carolyn Jones and King Donovan also star. The movie was based on Jack Finney’s The Body Snatchers and has inspired several later versions.
At 10:30 pm, the Sven Squad follows with 1955’s This Island Earth, starring Jeff Morrow, Faith Domergue and Rex Reason. Scientists find themselves caught up in an alien conflict after being recruited for a mysterious research project.
October 24: Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943)

Everett Collection
Two of Universal’s most famous monsters collide on October 24. Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man airs at 8 pm with Lon Chaney Jr. returning as Larry Talbot, better known as the Wolf Man. Talbot is desperate to find a way to end his curse, but his search eventually brings him to Frankenstein’s monster, played by Bela Lugosi. Ilona Massey, and Patric Knowles also star in the 1943 movie.
At 10:30 pm, House of Svengoolie keeps the Universal Monsters going with 1955’s Revenge of the Creature. The sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon follows the Gill-man after he is captured and brought to a Florida aquarium. Keep an eye out for a very young Clint Eastwood. He appears briefly as a lab assistant.
October 31: The Wizard of Oz & Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Everett Collection
Svengoolie gets Halloween night all to himself this year, starting at 7 pm. with another presentation of The Wizard of Oz. Then things get much creepier at 10 pm with Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1973). Kim Darby and Jim Hutton star as a couple who inherit an old mansion, where Sally soon discovers something is living inside. The movie originally aired on ABC in 1973 and became one of the era’s memorable made-for-TV horror films.
