Who’s Still Alive from Original Voice Cast of ‘Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!’?

SCOOBY DOO, WHERE ARE YOU?, Velma, Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, 1969-72
Everett Collection

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! premiered on September 13, 1969, and introduced a voice cast that would become just as iconic as the characters themselves. Produced by Hanna-Barbera, the show followed a group of teens and their talking Great Dane as they traveled from mystery to mystery, unmasking villains along the way.

Over time, some of those voices changed, but the original cast set the standard that every version since has followed. Let’s find out if any of the original voice actors are still alive and what they’re up to now.

Welker originally voiced Fred Jones when the series debuted in 1969, and over the years, he expanded his role within the franchise, eventually taking on the voice of Scooby-Doo himself in 2002 following Don Messick‘s retirement. Beyond Scooby-Doo, Welker has had one of the most extensive voice acting careers in animation history, with many credits across television, film, and video games. His work includes characters in Transformers, The Smurfs, and Futurama, among many others. Even decades later, he continues to voice both Fred and Scooby in current productions.

After leaving performing, Jaffe transitioned to a successful career as a talent agent, working with major industry clients for decades. She has largely stayed out of the public spotlight in recent years.

Indira Stefanianna (79)

Daphne Blake

Indira Stefanianna was the original voice of Daphne Blake during the first season of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! in 1969. She left the role after the first season when she moved to New York, and was replaced by Heather North. In addition to her work on the series, she had a career in television, film, and music, including stage performances and commercial work, and appeared in small roles in shows like M*A*S*H and Mayberry R.F.D. After stepping away from acting, she has largely lived out of the public spotlight.
