The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer just dropped — and Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci experienced an awkward reunion.
On Sunday, February 1, 20th Century Studios released the full trailer of the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada.
The preview began with shots of Streep as Miranda Priestly on a red carpet, as Nigel Kipling (Tucci) said in a voiceover, “Runway. It’s not just a magazine. It’s a global icon.” Viewers then saw Andy Sachs (Hatahway) walking up to Runway‘s office building. “A winding road that brings us back together again,” Nigel continued.
As Andy stepped into Miranda’s office, she announced, “Hello!”
Nigel then quipped, “Well, look what T.J. Maxx dragged in.”
“Sorry. Who is this? Do you know her? Do I know her?” Miranda asked, to which Andy responded, “I’m Andy Sachs. Andrea?”
That’s when Nigel explained, “She was one of the Emilys.”
“One of the what?” a still-confused Miranda asked.
As the text, “Icons reign forever,” was displayed on the screen, scenes of Andy and Miranda in fabulous outfits while riding in helicopters and cars played. Eventually, they and Nigel happeedn upon Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt).
“Am I having a hallucination?” Emily declared upon seeing them.
“Hi, Emily,” Andy said, to which Miranda asked, “You also know her?”
“We were at Runway at the same time, Miranda,” Emily pointed out.
Miranda then iconically said, “Really? Where was I?”
At the end of the trailer, Andy informed Emily that she is the new features editor at Runway. That’s when Emily offered a backhanded compliment, telling her, “You know what’s funny is you’ve changed, you have. You’re much more confident. Kept those eyebrows, though, didn’t you?”
In the comments of the YouTube video, fans shared their reactions to the Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer. One viewer wrote, “Miranda completely forgetting the events of the first movie because they were beneath her is a great move.”
A second fan agreed, writing, “Miranda pretending not to know Andy is everything.”
Another Youtube user shared, “This is how you make a trailer, not spoiling the entire plot, and keeping it fun and mysterious!! Movies are back baby <3.”
Someone else commented, “They’ve got the same studio, director, writer, producer, cinematographer, composer, and the entire main cast returning for the sequel. Oh, this has all the ingredients to be something very good 🥰.”
A different fan pointed out, “Love how Emily has two Emilies of her own now 😂.”
Meanwhile, yet another viewer wrote, “DK if Miranda forgetting about Andy and Emily was part of her sarcasm, but that, ‘Where was I?’ was diabolical in the same sense. 😂.”
