Remembering Jerry Lewis for His 100th Birthday: Who & Where are His Children Today?
Jerry Lewis, who would have turned 100 on March 16, 2026, was one of the most recognizable faces in American entertainment, best known for movies such as The Nutty Professor and The Bellboy. He was also known for teaming up with crooner Dean Martin, and they became one of the most successful comedy teams of the 1950s.
After a decade of films, television appearances, and nightclub shows, mounting personal and creative tensions led the duo to split in 1956. Offstage, his personal life was pretty complicated as well. Lewis had seven children across two marriages, six sons from his first marriage, and a daughter adopted later in life with his second wife. Some briefly stepped into the public eye, while others have led quieter lives.
On what would have been Lewis’s centennial birthday, here is a closer look at his children and what is publicly known about their lives.

Gary Lewis is the most widely known of Lewis’s children, thanks to a successful music career in the 1960s. As the lead singer of Gary Lewis & the Playboys, he scored a series of pop hits during the decade, including “This Diamond Ring,” “Count Me In,” and “Everybody Loves a Clown.” The group became a regular presence on American radio and television during the British Invasion.
Gary later served in the U.S. Army during the late 1960s and returned to music afterward. Over the years, he has continued performing, often touring with versions of Gary Lewis & the Playboys on nostalgia concert circuits. His relationship with his father was reportedly strained. When Jerry Lewis died, his will was made public and said: “I have intentionally excluded GARY LEWIS, RONALD LEWIS, ANTHONY JOSEPH LEWIS, CHRISTOPHER JOSEPH LEWIS, SCOTT ANTHONY LEWIS, and JOSEPH CHRISTOPHER LEWIS and their descendants as beneficiaries of my estate, it being my intention to that they shall receive no benefits hereunder.”

Scott Anthony Lewis was born in Santa Monica, California, and is the third son of Jerry Lewis and Patti Palmer. Unlike some of his siblings, who stayed almost entirely out of the entertainment world, Scott had occasional involvement in Hollywood-connected film and television productions. He worked behind the scenes on several projects, including serving as his father’s assistant on the 1980 film Hardly Working. Over the years, he also held production roles on television series such as Coach, Lizzie McGuire, Las Vegas, and Breaking News. Scott additionally appeared in the 1983 film Cracking Up, another project connected to his father’s filmmaking career.

Christopher Joseph Lewis has occasionally spoken publicly about growing up as the son of one of America’s most famous comedians. Lewis once joked that his mother would try to get Jerry to stop talking so the kids could finish their meals, but the request usually made him even funnier. Christopher has also reflected on the demanding side of his father’s personality. He has said, according to Closer Weekly, Jerry Lewis was both brilliant and intensely driven, describing him as “a genius” but also “a pain in the butt,” someone who expected discipline from his sons and enforced curfews at home.
As a teenager, Christopher began volunteering at the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day telethon, where he witnessed firsthand how seriously his father took the fundraiser. In recent years, he has appeared at film events and written about his father’s philosophy and work ethic, drawing on memories from film sets such as The Nutty Professor and the lessons Lewis shared with his crew.

Anthony Joseph Lewis is the fifth son of Jerry Lewis and Patti Palmer. As an adult, he has occasionally spoken publicly about his complicated relationship with his father and what it was like growing up in a household shaped by one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. In interviews after Jerry Lewis died in 2017, Anthony described a childhood that could feel unpredictable, saying the family never knew which version of their father might walk through the door after work. Anthony has said, according to Inside Edition, that while the family lived an affluent life in Bel-Air during the height of Lewis’s fame, the relationship between father and sons eventually became strained. Despite the difficulties between them, Anthony has said he still wishes he had one last chance to tell his father that he loved him.
Joseph Lewis (1964–2009)
Son of Jerry Lewis and Patti Palmer
Joseph Christopher Lewis was born in 1964 and was the youngest of Jerry Lewis’s six sons from his first marriage to Patti Palmer. A difficult relationship with his father marked his life, and by the time he died, the two had reportedly been estranged for many years. Joseph died on October 24, 2009, from a drug overdose in Utah at the age of 45. Authorities reported the cause of death as acute morphine intoxication. In later interviews, Jerry Lewis acknowledged the lasting pain of losing his son, saying the loss was something he never truly recovered from. Joseph had been married twice and was the father of three children.

Like many of her half-siblings, she has largely lived outside the public spotlight.
