Eve Plumb, who turns 67 today, April 29, 2025, is best known for her role as Jan Brady, in the classic TV sitcom The Brady Bunch. While most of us recall middle child Jan’s struggles with her identity and that famous “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!” catchphrase, there’s so much more that we can learn about that time in Eve’s life. To celebrate her birthday, here are five surprising things you might not have known about her.

1  Eve was the show’s real Monkees fan

Eve’s father was involved in the music industry and involved with the band during its heyday. So, it makes perfect sense that Eve would be a fan of the band. She even had the privilege of visiting the group during some of their recording sessions, including one where they were working on their classic single “Last Train to Clarksville.”

2 If she wasn’t Jan, she would have liked to have been … Alice??

During a a recording of The Real Brady Bros podcast with her TV brothers, Barry Williams and Christopher Knight, Eve revealed that she would have most wanted to play Alice because the character was “outside of the family, a real stalwart character and the comedic relief”. On the other hand, Eve’s character, Jan, was pretty much the opposite of all those things. Because of that, it’s easy to understand why, if she had been older, she would have wanted to try something different.

3 She thought Christopher Knight was the wittiest Brady

Eve and Christopher were roughly the same age while making The Brady Bunch, they both played middle children, and their experiences were similar enough that they formed a special bond. Along with that friendship, Eve discovered that her castmate was, as she said on The Real Brady Bros podcast, both “charming and witty.” With that said, when the show ended, Eve was ready to continue her professional relationship with two other Brady kids, neither of them being Christopher.

4 After the show wrapped, Eve, Michael Lookinland and Susan Olsen were almost “The Brady 3”

During the later seasons of The Brady Bunch, when they weren’t on the set, the kids would tour as a musical act. However, after the show was cancelled, Eve, along with Michael and Susan, made plans to break away from their castmates and form a new group called “The Brady 3.” Eve remembers photo sessions with fancy outfits — but not if they ever actually recorded anything.

5 Playing against type after The Brady Bunch helped her career

Eve has acknowledged publicly that playing against type as a teenage prostitute in the 1976 TV movie Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway helped her career take a giant leap that some of her other Brady castmates struggled to achieve. The TV movie was extremely successful in the ratings and Eve herself received rave reviews for her dramatic turn. Perhaps the most important thing that the movie did was give her the courage to say “no” when asked to be part of the infamous Brady Bunch Variety Show.
