Before David Schwimmer achieved huge fame as Ross in Friends, he was just working random jobs in order to get by. During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he recalled working as a process server for his mom and having to deliver some bad news to none other than music icon Rod Stewart himself!

Schwimmer explained, “One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work, and my mom said, ‘Well, you can be a process server for me.’ My mom was a divorce lawyer, and I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers.”

He continued, “Once, oh man, thank goodness I’ve never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart. I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows.”

Schwimmer did not reveal the timeline or say which divorce it was, but it was likely his divorce in the ’80s. Stewart was married to Alana Stewart from 1979 to 1984 and then Rachel Hunter from 1990 to 2006. He is currently married to Penny Lancaster, and the pair have been wed since 2007.

During the interview, the chat transitioned to discussing Schwimmer’s new role in the Disney+ series Goosebumps: The Vanishing, where he plays a divorced father of two. “I’ve always been a fan of horror, especially of horror action-comedy. The genre is so exciting to me,” he previously shared. “I’m a genuine fan, and I’ve never been asked to do it.”
