New Owner Having Problems With ‘The Goonies’ House Neighbors
Two years ago, a Goonies superfan got the chance to live out their dreams after purchasing the iconic home from the 1985 film The Goonies. Behman Zakeri purchased the home for $1.65 million in Astoria, Oregon. He said that the purchase was years in the making and explained, “I asked to own The Goonies house from the universe. And I took all the steps necessary in my power, working hard six, seven days a week and saving, so that if it ever became for sale, I’d have a shot at buying it.”
Since Zakeri is a big fan himself, he doesn’t mind that people drive by all the time just to see the famous home. However, some of his neighbors feel differently. People around the neighborhood began putting up signs that read, “Goonies Not Welcome” after Zakeri brought the house.
He said, “How is that possible, and why would somebody think that? And why would you want to live in this neighborhood knowing for the last 38 years one of the greatest iconic movies of all time was filmed in that house and you chose to live two houses down? Why not move out?”
Zakeri and a friend of his decided to put out their own signs. The Goonies home says, “Hey you guys, Goonies welcome!” Plus, one of his friends purchased a home nearby in the neighborhood and put up a sign that says, “Ignore Karen.”
The debate still lives on … should fans be allowed to visit the homes of movies and television shows, respectfully of course? Or should these historic homes be left alone to avoid traffic and unwanted visitors? Zakeri said that he is happy that fans come to visit if they are respectful of the neighbors and the community.
