Who Is Gae Exton, Christopher Reeve’s Longtime Partner Prior to Dana?
Before Dana became Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve had another serious girlfriend who he met before his meteoric rise to fame. He and Gae Exton, a British model from London who he met on set while filming Superman, began dating in the late 1970s. What followed was a whirlwind romance, which Exton describes in the upcoming documentary on her former partner, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.
Though they never got married, they had two children together: Matthew Exton Reeve, born in in 1979, and Alexandra Exton Reeve, born in 1983. They began having problems soon after, and the two broke up in 1987. According to the documentary, Reeve met Dana just a number of months later. In 1992, Will Reeve was born. The breakup was somewhat amicable, according to the film and their children.

“It was beautiful to hear her tell that story, and then tell us her love story of her own relationship,” daughter Alexandra shared recently. “And then the continued the love story, even after they separated, about how our family still remains really close, because they gave us this gift of having the united set of parents, even after they separated. So I’m so glad that was celebrated.”
“My mom is incredibly brave to tell her side of the story and I’m proud of her,” son Matthew added.
Because she is a fairly private person, there’s not much info on what Exton is up to now. Her son Matthew is a producer, director, screenwriter and activist; daughter Alexandra is the CEO of the Center for Democracy & Technology, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization fighting to protect civil rights and civil liberties in the digital age.
