Beach BoysBrian Wilson has had a tough year. His wife Melinda of almost 30 years passed away in January and he is suffering from a “neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia).” As Melinda was the one who took care of him and he is now unable to properly take care fo himself, his family filed for a conservatorship in February. Wilson’s longtime business manager LeeAnn Hard and manager and publicist Jean Sievers were appointed as conservators.

The Wilson family confirmed that this was a tough decision and was carefully put together by his doctors and seven children but recently stated how great he is doing. His cousin and bandmate Mike Love added that while this legal decision has changed things, it hasn’t changed the bond that Wilson shares with the Beach Boys. Love said, “He knows that he needs the help but we’re still able to get together and we’re going to see each other soon. It’s not so negative as it sounds. As long as he’s cared for properly. He’s seeing his children… He’s being well taken care of.”

“His musical abilities, as long as he’s alive he’ll have those, but he does need medical supervision and care. His wife did take care of that,” Love continued. “It’s a brand new day now and I’m hoping we can do something together — all of us — and it’ll be great.” Wilson is free to pursue any musical activities that he wants to, so perhaps new Beach Boys music could be coming one day.

Recently, Wilson reunited with Love and his Beach Boys bandmates to celebrate the new documentary and seemed in good spirits. The upcoming documentary, which will premiere on Disney+ on May 24, synopsis reads, “The Beach Boys is a celebration of the legendary band that revolutionized pop music, and the iconic, harmonious sound they created that personified the California dream, captivating fans for generations and generations to come.”
