For a show about nothing, its success was certainly something. Seinfeld, a long-running series about four friends and their often amusing struggles lasted for nine seasons. Although the network would have ran another season, the creator and star Jerry Seinfeld decided that he took the show as far as he wanted to go, not wanting it to “jump the shark,” as they say. Since the show ended in 1998, many of the stars have gone on to do some big things but are also simultaneously best known for their characters in Seinfeld. Let’s find out where Jerry Seinfeld is now, as he turns 70 years old this year.

Seinfeld basically played a dramatized version of himself on the show as a comedian in New York City. After he decided to end the show, he went back to writing, acting, and doing stand-up comedy. He wrote about his experiences in a TV movie documentary called The Seinfeld Story in 2004 and joined the rest of the cast on Seinfeld‘s co-creator Larry David‘s show Curb Your Enthusiasm. Curb Your Enthusiasm recently ended after 11 seasons and Seinfeld appeared in the series finale, saying it was a great way to wrap up both shows. He has also launched a series called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, combining his love of classic cars with talking to his funny friends. More recently, he co-wrote, produced, directed, and stars in the upcoming Netflix film Unfrosted. He continues to do stand-up and has a Netflix special called 23 Hours to Kill. Seinfeld has three children with his wife Jessica, whom he married in 1999.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine Benes)

Louis-Dreyfus continued to work steadily after Seinfeld and got her own show as the lead of Selina Meyer on HBO‘s Veep. She has also appeared in shows such as Arrested Development, The Simpsons and The New Adventures of Old Christine as well as plays Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Marvel films The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the upcoming film Thunderbolts. She has been married to her husband Brad Hall since 1987 and they have two sons. She was pregnant with both of her sons during the filming of Seinfeld and the show hid them both. For her second pregnancy, it was brought up that they might make a storyline where Elaine gained weight, but Louis-Dreyfus said that she was so sensitive about her pregnancy weight gain that she wouldn’t allow it!

Jason Alexander (George Costanza)

Alexander is still best known for his role as the pessimistic Costanza. After Seinfeld ended, he made some guest appearances on shows such as Monk and Friends and of course, joined in a few episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm. He has also done some voice work on cartoons Robot Chicken, Harley Quinn and more. He has been married to Daena E. Title since 1982 and they have two sons. Fun fact: You can hear his voice in the It’s Tough to be a Bug ride in Disney’s Animal Kingdom as Weevil Kneevil.

In honor of his character working with the New York Yankees, they will be giving away a George Costanza bobblehead on July 5 for Seinfeld night, referring to the show’s premiere episode on July 5, 1989.

Michael Richards (Kramer)

Richards was beloved as the character Kramer but things took a turn in 2006 when he went on a racist rant at a comedy club and was effectively “canceled.” He writes about the experience and how he has since changed for the better in his upcoming memoir called Entrances and Exits which comes out on June 4, 2024. After taking some time away from the spotlight, he returned for an appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and Kirstie. He has a daughter from his first marriage and is currently married to Beth Skipp. They have one son.

Wayne Knight (Newman)

Last but not least, the character Newman was not a part of the core four but he was certainly unforgettable. Knight is best known for Seinfeld and 3rd Rock from the Sun. He continued to work regularly, appearing in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Exes, and more recently Them. He has also appeared in some big films including Basic Instinct and Jurassic Park. He has frequently talked about the difficulty getting roles due to being typecast as Newman but it seems that the work didn’t completely dry up. Knight has spoken up for the rights of postal service workers after famously playing one on TV in Seinfeld. He has one son with his second wife, Clare de Chenu.

Who’s your favorite character in Seinfeld? Of course, there are so many hilarious side characters… would you like to see us do a part two?
