Dermot Mulroney was just 24 years old when he caught our eye in 1988’s Young Guns, but the gifted classically trained cellist started out ever earlier; he first got his start in TV with 1986’s Fame and made-for-TV Sin of Innocence. Since then, the now 61-year-old star has carved out a delightful and diverse path through Hollywood, bringing charm, heart and some rugged cool (and occasional horror) to the big screen for over three decades.
Whether he’s playing a swoon-worthy love interest, a tough-as-nails cowboy, or popping up unexpectedly in quirky comedies and creepy thrillers, along with hit TV shows from Friendsand New Girlto his current run on Chicago Fireas Dom Pascal, Mulroney’s presence is always a welcome one.
On June 21, Mulroney filed for divorce from his wife of 15 years, Prima Apollinaare, citing irreconcilable differences. He asked for joint custody of their daughters, Mabel Ray, 17, and Sally June, 15. Mulroney met Apollinaare (who changed her name from Tharita Cutulle, according to People) a year after his divorce from actress Catherine Keener.
Here’s a look at some of Mulroney’s roles in TV and film over the years.
