Eric Dane‘s last social media post is even more heartbreaking after his death.

On Thursday, February 19, the actor — best known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy, Euphoria, and The Last Shipdied at 53 after a battle with ALS.

Dane’s last social media post came in the form of a joint Instagram post with Target ALS Foundation on December 18, 2025.

“We’re proud to share an important announcement: Eric Dane has joined the Target ALS Board of Directors, deepening his commitment to accelerating ALS research and driving meaningful change for the ALS community,” the update revealed.

It continued, “Diagnosed in 2024, Eric has become a powerful advocate for progress, lending his voice to our ‘Ending ALS Starts With You’ campaign and even portraying a character living with ALS on NBC’s Brilliant Minds to raise awareness. His decision to join our Board reflects the same relentless spirit he brings to his personal journey.”

Target ALS  added, “Our Board brings together world-class scientists, biotech and pharma leaders, philanthropists, people with ALS and their families, and experts across venture capital, law, and technology. Eric’s voice and leadership will add a vital new perspective to this diverse and dedicated group.”

To conclude the announcement, the nonprofit shared, “We’re honored to welcome Eric to the Board as we work together to accelerate discovery and change what it means to receive an ALS diagnosis.”

In the wake of his death, Dane’s Instagram followers flooded that final social media post with touching tributes. One wrote, “Rest in peace, Eric. You’ll be dearly missed. Your legacy will forever live on through your movies and series. Gone too soon.”

Another shared, “Dr. Sloan forever 😢.”

Someone else echoed, “Rest in peace, love. Gone too soon, but your courage will live on. 💔🕊️.”

A different follower commented, “Rest well, Eric. You fought the good fight 🕊️ 💔.”

Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user wrote, “Rest easy! You’ll be in our hearts forever❤️.”

Dane announced his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in April 2025. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart (who withdrew her 2018 divorce filing in March 2025), and their two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.
