TCM Shares Big Announcements for its 30th Anniversary
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) turns 30 this year! To celebrate, the network shared some very exciting announcements with fans including new programming, events, and podcasts. First, talented filmmakers Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Paul Thomas Anderson have extended their advisory agreement through the end of 2024. Plus beloved TCM hosts Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone, Dave Karger, Jacqueline Stewart, and Eddie Muller have all signed on for another year.

Motion Picture Group said, “With the 30th year of TCM upon us, we both look back at all that’s been built over the last several decades and look ahead at what is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times in TCM’s history. TCM’s collaboration with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson has infused an even greater love of cinema into our programming and inspired us to expand what TCM offers across a wide array of mediums for fans of classic movies to dive even deeper into the films and stories they cherish.”

TCM fans can expect some brand-new programs this year including a new original six-part documentary series called The Power of Film, which talks about why popular films are so memorable and why fans love them so much. The series will be hosted by Karger and filmmakers Doug Pray and Laura Gabbert. The list will be curated by UCLA film professor Howard Suber. In April, a new franchise featuring prominent filmmakers will be introduced called Two for One, where filmmakers host a double feature of their choice every Saturday night.

This year also marks a few special events for TCM including the 15th annual TCM Classic Film Festival with the theme “Most Wanted: Crime and Justice in Film.” Not only that, but TCM is teaming up with Warner Bros. for a new WB/TCM Classic Movie Tour at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood. In addition, superfans can attend a TCM Classic Cruise aboard the Disney Magic cruise ship in October. Imagine sailing on the ocean while watching some of your favorite classic movies on the big screen. Sounds pretty nice!

Lastly, TCM will introduce a new podcast with Max called Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast. TCM host Ben Mankiewicz will talk to actors and filmmakers about their favorite movies and memories. The award-winning podcast The Plot Thickens will also return this year for its fifth season.
