Billy Joel has confirmed that his longtime Madison Square Garden residency ends in July 2024, but that doesn’t mean he is retiring. A few days ago, during a preview of the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame’s career retrospective, Billy Joel: My Life — A Piano Man’s Journey, Joel said that he will continue touring but will be traveling to different venues.

He assured fans, “I’m not leaving [touring]. We’ll still do the work — we’re just not going to keep working in the same place. We’re going to different places.” He also teased, “Where is Elton [John], by the way? He’s retiring [from live performances], but I think he’ll show up somewhere again.”

Billy Joel: My Life — A Piano Man’s Journey is an exhibit that shares bits and pieces from his decades-long career and includes memorabilia such as a program from his very first piano recital at the age of 12, a personal book of lyrics, and even a nine-foot grand piano he played on tour. About half of the memorabilia came directly from Joel and the other half came from some of his fans. During the preview event, fans looked excited as they found the pieces they submitted to the exhibit.

While Joel will be gearing up to travel and tour in the next few years, he said that he will always call Long Island his home, despite rumors that he was looking into relocating. He shared, “This is my home; it will always be my home. We will always have this as our home — and we’ll come and visit this place a lot.”

As for now, he will continue to play at Madison Square Garden until his residency is up in July. Get tickets to his final shows or get tickets to his exhibit on Long Island.
