As the day approaches for the release of the live-action reimagining of Disney’s classic Snow White, several trailers have been released, giving fans a sneak peek of the film. The movie will be released on March 21, 2025, and already it has more criticism than excitement from Disney fans and even actors in Hollywood.

Disney decided to switch up many of the classic characters, especially after actor Peter Dinklage made some comments. “I was sort of taken aback,” he said in an interview. “They were very proud to cast a Latino actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that f****** backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

While other members of the dwarfism community have said that he hasn’t really discussed the issue before and even said that his comments took away jobs they could have gotten, Disney decided to switch things up. At first, Disney said they were going to create “magical creatures” using CGI to replace the dwarves. Now, it appears they are having actors of different “genders, ethnicities and heights,” to play the beloved characters.

Rachel Zegler will play Snow White, which also caused some controversy since she is Latina and not technically “the fairest of them all.” Andrew Burnap will play Jonathan, the male lead, and the film reportedly will not have a Prince Charming as they want Snow White to be more of a strong female lead in the movie. Gal Gadot will play the Evil Queen while Ansu Kabia will play the Huntsman. Zegler has opened up about the new film in some recent interviews and says that it is not the same storyline as the classic.

She explained, “We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie, Andrew Burnap; great dude. It’s one of those things that I think everyone’s going to have their assumptions about what it’s going to be, but it’s really not about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful.” Zegler has also said that the original was made over 80 years ago and times have changed for women and the new movie will reflect that.

Even with all of the controversies, fans can get excited about new songs and a reimagined plot. What’s your take on the film? Would you rather they stick to the classic 1937 film theme or are you excited for all of the changes? If Snow White doesn’t sound up your alley, Disney is also working on or has already released live-action films for Lilo & Stitch, Mufasa: The Lion King, Moana, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Aristocats, Hercules and more.
