Where Is the Cast of ‘Just One of the Guys’ Now?
Terry Griffith was convinced her writing wasn’t getting a fair chance because she was a girl. In Lisa Gottlieb’s 1985 comedy Just One of the Guys, the aspiring journalist, played by Joyce Hyser, cuts her hair, dresses as a boy, and enrolls at another high school to submit her work and see if the result changes.
More than 40 years later, Hyser, Clayton Rohner, Toni Hudson, Sherilyn Fenn and Leigh McCloskey are scheduled to join Gottlieb at the Hollywood Show on October 23 and 24, 2026, at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. Before the reunion, here’s a look at what happened to them and their costars.

Hyser was 27 when Just One of the Guys opened, despite playing a high school student. She later had a recurring role on L.A. Law, but she shifted her focus toward writing and producing screenplays in 2012.
Now 68, she uses the name Joyce Hyser Robinson and is a founder of the Harold Robinson Foundation, which she helped establish with her husband, Jeff Robinson. The organization provides free camp experiences and other programs for children and families from underserved communities in South Los Angeles.
Clayton Rohner as Rick Morehouse

Rohner played Rick, the new friend Terry falls for while he still thinks she’s a boy. He followed the film with April Fool’s Day and I, Madman, and later appeared on Murder One, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The X-Files, and G vs E.
Rohner, 69, also appeared in the independent films We Are Boats and Mope, projects he discussed in a 2018 interview with StarTrek.com. “I was happy just to be a struggling actor,” he said of his early expectations, explaining that he had been fortunate to work consistently for much of his career.
Billy Jayne as Buddy Griffith

Columbia Pictures/Everett Collection
Credited as Billy Jacoby, Jayne played Terry’s younger brother Buddy, who helps her pass as a boy. He also played Blanche’s grandson David on The Golden Girls and later starred as Mikey Randall on Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.
Jayne, 57, went on to direct commercials with his production company JAYNE Films listing work for brands including Toyota, AT&T, and Snickers. He also cofounded My Friend Billy with Jordan Atlas, a creative services and video production company established in 2024.
William Zabka as Greg

Zabka had already played Johnny Lawrence in The Karate Kid when he took on the role of another school bully, Greg. He later appeared in Back to School and received an Oscar nomination for the short film Most in 2004, sharing the nomination with Bobby Garabedian.
Zabka, who turns 61 in October, returned to play Johnny for Cobra Kai, which released its final episodes on February 13, 2025. He also appeared alongside Ralph Macchio in the end-credits scene of Karate Kid: Legends later that year.
Toni Hudson as Denise

Columbia/Everett Collection
Hudson played Denise, Terry’s best friend and one of the people who knows about her disguise. She had already appeared in Places in the Heart with Sally Field and also made guest appearances on Knight Rider, The A-Team and The Love Boat.
Hudson, 65, has worked as a producer and an actress, doing both on the 2020 film Charlie’s Christmas Wish. She also wrote Tinder Love and is listed as a producer on the planned film Poe: The Poet.
Sherilyn Fenn as Sandy

Sandy’s crush on Terry made keeping that disguise a little harder. Fenn went on to play Audrey Horne on Twin Peaks, earning an Emmy nomination, and her films included Of Mice and Men and Boxing Helena.
Fenn returned as Audrey in the 2017 Twin Peaks revival and has also appeared on S.W.A.T. and Shining Vale. She is now 61 and has reunited with Twin Peaks costar Ray Wise for the psychological thriller The Good Dark.
Deborah Goodrich as Deborah

Goodrich played Deborah, Greg’s girlfriend, who catches Rick’s attention. Her acting credits also include All My Children and April Fool’s Day, which reunited her with Rohner.
Now 68, she writes novels as Deborah Goodrich Royce, after moving behind the scenes as a story editor at Miramax. Her 2026 novel, Best Boy, follows a former actress whose settled life is disrupted by a threatening letter from a man she doesn’t remember.
Leigh McCloskey as Kevin

Everett Collection
McCloskey played Kevin, Terry’s college boyfriend, who isn’t pleased with her new look. Dallas viewers already knew him as Mitch Cooper, Lucy Ewing’s husband, and his later television work included Santa Barbara and General Hospital.
At 71, McCloskey is also an artist and author, and he teaches at the Aion Institute. He painted the library of his Malibu home as an artwork called The Hieroglyph of the Human Soul, a space incorporated into his painting course.
