What To Know

  • Story Television will air two weeks of historical biopics and documentaries starting July 13, featuring influential figures from music, sports, politics and religion.
  • Week one highlights include real-life disaster dramas, sports biopics and miniseries about The Temptations, Anne Frank and The Beatles, while week two features political dramas, epic miniseries and behind-the-scenes stories.
  • The event showcases plenty of A-list stars including LeVar Burton, Richard Dreyfuss, Burt Lancaster, Mary Steenburgen, and more across a diverse lineup of films and miniseries.

Beginning July 13, Story Television (a cable and over-the-air network) will present two weeks of historical biopics and documentaries as part of its July programming lineup. Several of the titles featured include rarely televised made-for-TV movies from the past that are well worth a fresh look today. These movies are inspired by some of history’s most influential figures — from music and sports, to politics and religion — the lineup includes The Beatles, Muhammad Ali, Ronald Reagan, Anne Frank, Pope John Paul II, Moses and more.

Week one highlights real-life disaster films like the TV movie 14 Hours, which chronicles Tropical Storm Alison in Houston and the race against time to evacuate a hospital in the aftermath of the floods, which stars JoBeth Williams and Kris Kristofferson. In another TV movie, Fire! Trapped on the 37th Floor, Lee Majors is caught up in escaping a 1988 office fire at the First Interstate Bank Tower in downtown Los Angeles. Sports biopics are also part of the schedule including 1978’s One in a Million: The Ron LeFlore Story starring LeVar Burton as the legendary baseball player, and 1998’s The Tiger Woods Story with Khalil Kain as the golfing great. Also showing is the 1998 miniseries The Temptations about the rise of the Motown legends.

Week two brings the political drama The Day Reagan Was Shot starring Richard Dreyfuss that chronicles Ronald Reagan’s assassination attempt in 1981. The epic miniseries Moses the Lawgiver starring Burt Lancaster, and the tell-all behind-the-scenes movie Growing Up Brady, based on Barry Williams‘ memoir of the show, are also part of the mix.

Other actors you can catch in the two-week event include Albert Finney, Courtney B. Vance, Cybill ShepherdMary Steenburgen, Paul Giamatti, Danny Kaye, and Elizabeth Montgomery.
