What To Know

  • Two bronze statues honoring Farrah Fawcett are planned for her Texas hometowns.
  • Fawcett left a legacy in both entertainment and art, with her works held at the University of Texas and celebrated in upcoming exhibits.

Farrah Fawcett was best known as Jill Munroe from the hit TV series Charlie’s Angels, but many don’t know that Fawcett was a very accomplished artist and sculptor. She studied art at the University of Texas from 1965 to 1968 under the guidance of Professor Charles Umlauf after switching her major from microbiology to Art. Now, the pop culture icon is about to be immortalized.

Artist David Deming has been working to bring two bronze statues of the famous Angel to her hometowns of Corpus Christi and Rockport, Texas. Private donors have funded both statues.

The Corpus Christi statue is of the famous show of Fawcett on her skateboard. The proposed project still needs to be approved by the Corpus Christi City Council, which is on their docket in late August.

Friends of Farrah Fawcett, a group of former classmates from W.B. Ray High School, is behind the statue venture. Fawcett attended the school from 1963 to 1965 and graduated in 1965. During her high school years, Fawcett was voted “Most Beautiful” each year.

The Fawcett statue in Rockport, Texas, has been approved and is scheduled for an unveiling in January 2027. This statue portrays Farrah’s iconic praying hands pose from her Charlie’s Angels promotional image and is set to stand downtown at the bayfront in conjunction with a month-long “America’s Sweetheart” exhibit of her artwork to be displayed at The Rockport Cultural Arts District.

The art display will hold 31 art pieces by Fawcett, which is being loaned by the Blanton Museum at the University of Texas. Fawcett donated all her personal art to the university back in 2009. Farrah worked mostly with nude females, oil on canvas, and other mediums. In 2000, she collaborated with artist Keith Edmier and released an art book titled Keith Edmier and Farrah Fawcett: Recasting Pygmalion. The duo also had their art shown at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA, and LACMA in Los Angeles.

These announcements come on the heels of the 50th Anniversary of Charlie’s Angels, which shot Fawcett into superstardom alongside fellow Angels Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith. Also 50 years ago, Fawcett released her iconic burnt-orange swimsuit poster that sold over 12 million copies.

After Fawcett left Charlie’s Angels in 1977, she continued working on TV, theatrical films, and Broadway. She was best known for the TV movie The Burning Bed and the Broadway and feature film Extremities. Fawcett paved her own way in the entertainment business with her own shampoo line, the reality show Chasing Farrah, and posing nude when she turned 50 in Playboy’s best-selling magazine of the 1990s.  She returned to Playboy for her 1998 follow-up pictorial and art video called “All of Me,” where she showed off her artistic side.

After being diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006, she sadly passed away from the disease after a three-year battle in 2009. The documentary about her battle, Farrah’s Story, was nominated for an Emmy in 2009. She is survived by her son, Redmond O’Neal.

Any Farrah Fawcett fans who want to help with this project at the Rockport, TX statue, the Rockport Cultural Arts District (RCAD) is fundraising to help bring the statue to life for January 2026.

RCAD hopes to have enough donations by August 31st in order to help with the installation of the statue by January 1st.

RCAD is a 501 nonprofit, making it tax-deductible. Donations can be made here, or checks can be mailed to RCAD, 902 E. Cornwall St, Rockport, TX 78382.
