KFC just brought back a fan-favorite ’90s menu item — the Twister — and fans are “so excited” about its return.
On Monday, February 23, the fast-food chain took to Instagram with the unique announcement. It did so in the form of a fake open letter written in the Notes app from a KFC employee.
“I’m not coming to you as KFC right now, not even as the colonel. I’m coming to you man to man bc I can’t keep this bottled up anymore,” the message began.
“I once posted, ‘HERE, DAMN,’ when the wedges came back on the menu. I’m sorry for raising my voice at you, but I was mad, OK,” they continued. “But then I kept reading. And rereading. And I realized something. You weren’t being demanding. You were passionate. You were standing up for yourself and declaring your desires.”
After reading self-help books, the KFC employee said they “barged into the CEO’s office and demanded that we BRING BACK THE TWISTER. Yeah, that’s right. I see the comments, and I’m with you. It’s been gone for too long. She was lowkey mad, but when I showed her the comments, she was persuaded.”
To conclude the announcement, they wrote, “Anyways, today’s my last day. Yeah, I got fired, but I did it for you. No regrets. You all got what you wanted. The Twister is back today!!!!!! Please tell me it was worth it.”

In the comments of KFC’s Instagram announcement, followers reacted to the big news. One fan shared, “I love that the self-help books persuaded the hero to make a terrible career choice 💀💀.”
Another wrote, “Twister 👏👏👏👏.”
Someone else declared, “So excited! Going to grab one tomorrow for lunch! Early birthday treat for me!”
A different follower exclaimed, “@kfc I LOVE YOU THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THE TWISTER BACK.”
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user wrote, “Is this dude me!? Lol, I’m the one in here demanding its return for I don’t know how long now, Bring back the Twister! 🌪 🐔 🌯.”
However, others begged for the return of a different fan-favorite menu item.
“We said POPCORN CHICKEN!!” one insisted. “Get back to your desk and get to work, you ain’t fired.”
Another pleaded, “Please bring back popcorn chicken!”
Someone else echoed, “WHAT ABOUT POPCORN CHICKEN?????? You’d think that’s the easiest.”
KFC first offered its original Twister wrap in 1997, but discontinued it in the U.S. in 2014. In 2024, the chain tested its return for a limited time. Now, however, customers can enjoy a nationwide release of the Classic Twister or a new Spicy Twister, with or without bacon.
The Classic Twister includes two Original Recipe chicken tenders, lettuce, diced tomato, and Pepper Mayo, wrapped in a flour tortilla. The Spicy Twister simply substitutes the Pepper Mayo for spicy Zinger Sauce.
