What To Know

  • Steve Perry has publicly denied rumors that he will rejoin Journey for their “Final Frontier” farewell tour, stating in a Facebook post that the speculation is not true.
  • Perry, who was Journey’s lead singer from 1978 to 1987 and contributed to many of their biggest hits, expressed gratitude for fans’ continued support but emphasized his focus on new creative work.
  • The reunion rumors originated from comments by Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain, who suggested Perry had been invited and was considering joining, but Perry has now definitively put those rumors to rest.

Journey fans were aflutter with recent news that guitarist Neal Schon had reportedly been in touch with beloved former Journey singer Steve Perry about joining the band for some performances during their “Final Frontier” farewell tour this year. But in a February 19, 2026 Facebook post, Perry shot the idea down, noting that “the rumors about me rejoining the band are simply not true, and I want to gently put them to rest.”

Perry joined the band as lead singer in 1978, and was the vocal powerhouse behind many of their biggest hits, including “Don’t Stop Believin’.” In the decades since Perry quit the band in 1987, there have been persistent fan rumors that he will rejoin the group — especially after he joined his former bandmates onstage in 1991 for a tribute to music promoter Bill Graham.

But as Perry noted in his Facebook post, a reunion is not in the cards. His post read:

“To all my friends –

I’ve been hearing these recent rumors, and I wanted to speak to you all directly. While I’m always grateful for the love people still have for Journey, the rumors about me rejoining the band are simply not true, and I want to gently put them to rest.

I completely understand why people would hope for that. The music we created together means a great deal to me too. But I’m continuing to explore new creative work and really enjoy working on new music that reflects where I am today.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the years. Your loyalty has never gone unnoticed, and I am forever humbly grateful.

Sincerely,

Steve Perry”

The rumor about the possible classic-era Journey reunion stemmed from a February 19 interview with Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain. Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock, Cain said, of Perry possibly joining the band at some point on their farewell tour, “Neal already asked, and he says (Perry’s) thinking about it. I hope he comes out. It’s never too late. We’ve got 100 shows, so he’s welcome at any one of them. He didn’t say no — leave it at that.”
