Where and when is Stargate SG-1 streaming?

Beginning February 15, all ten seasons of Stargate SG-1 will stream on Netflix, giving viewers an easy way to catch up before Stargate returns in a newly announced Prime Video series.

The return of the sci-fi favorite precedes a new Prime Video series. The show originally aired on Showtime in July 1997, where the series aired its first five seasons on the premium cable network before moving to the Syfy Channel for its remaining five seasons.

What is Stargate SG-1 about?

Stargate SG-1 serves as an extended universe to the 1997 film Stargate, starring Kurt Russell, James Spader, and Jaye Davidson, building on the movie’s premise and turning its one-off adventure into a sprawling sci-fi mythology that carried on for a decade and beyond.

Stargate SG-1 is a sci-fi adventure series about a military exploration team that uses an ancient alien wormhole device called the Stargate to travel to other planets. Each mission puts them up against alien civilizations, powerful enemies (like the parasitic Goa’uld), and advanced technologies, while dealing with political, ethical, and cosmic stakes back on Earth.

It’s essentially a blend of military sci-fi, archaeology/mythology, diplomacy, and space opera, with a monster-of-the-week vibe early on and larger serialized arcs as it goes.

Who stars in Stargate SG-1?

Richard Dean Anderson stepped in for Kurt Russell when the story transitioned to television, taking on the role of Colonel Jack O’Neill opposite Christopher Judge‘s Jaffa warrior Teal’c, Amanda Tapping‘s astrophysicist Samantha Carter, Michael Shanks‘ archaeologist Dr. Daniel Jackson, and Don S. Davis‘ Major General George Hammond.

Over the course of its ten-season run, the ensemble expanded to include Gary Jones, Corin Nemec, Claudia Black, Dean Stockwell, Dan Shea, Ben Browder, Teryl Rothery, and Beau Bridges.
