Minnie Driver recently revealed that one of her favorite collaborators was her ex, Matt Damon, with whom she starred in Good Will Hunting.

On Sunday, January 11, the actress, 55, chatted with E! Live from the Red Carpet at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. Driver presented alongside Orlando Bloom for the Best Non-English Language Motion Picture category.

When asked who her favorite person to work with during her lengthy career, Driver admitted, “I’ve got to say Matt and Ben [Affleck] were pretty fun when they were just getting going, raring to go, just kids,” per People.

“I’ve been very lucky, very fortunate,” she added, also describing her Grosse Pointe Blank costar, John Cusack, as “incredibly intellectually challenging and stimulating and fun.”

In Good Will Hunting, Driver played a wealthy Harvard student named Skylar, the love interest of Will Hunting (Damon), a janitor/math genius who is discovered by an MIT professor, Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgård). Meanwhile, Affleck played Chuckie Sullivan, Will’s best friend, and Robin Williams portrayed Will’s therapist, Dr. Sean Maguire.

The 1997 film earned a plethora of award nominations, including Driver’s Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Affleck and Damon also won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, while Williams snagged one for Best Supporting Actor.

After meeting on the set of Good Will Hunting, Driver and Damon dated from 1997 to 1998 until he suddenly announced their breakup on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“Well, I’m single,” he revealed at the time, per the Daily Mail. “I was with Minnie for a while, but we’re not really romantically involved anymore. We’re just really good friends. I love her dearly.”

The news left Driver “heartbroken” because he hadn’t told her beforehand that they were no longer dating, Driver recalled in a March 2024 interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
