As for us, professionally, we have so much thanks to give Dick for the countless times he graced the cover of our sister publication TV Guide Magazine, and shared with us his personal memories, struggles and triumphs over the years. Always gracious with his time, and never short for words.

We’ve also been blessed to now have David Van Deusen, the former editor and publisher of The Walnut Times: The Dick Van Dyke Show newsletter that ran from 1995 to 2015, and who now manages the Facebook group called “Celebrating The Dick Van Dyke Show,” as a friend. David’s known Dick for years and shared so many fun memories in our collector’s issue.

And we couldn’t adore our dear friend Larry Mathews anymore – he’s absolutely the kindest soul. Larry was just 5 years old when he secured the role of his lifetime playing opposite Dick and Mary Tyler Moore as their onscreen son Ritchie.

Personally, Dick’s filled our home — and I know all of your homes — with joy, music and an unmistakable warmth. For countless families, he wasn’t just a performer on a screen, he was a comforting presence.
I know as many of us grew older, we had the privilege of sharing Dick with our children and/or grandchildren. Seeing them fall in love with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins is a constant reminder of how timeless Dick’s magic truly is.
