Mamma Mia! stars Stellan Skarsgård and Pierce Brosnan recently reunited on a red carpet 17 years after the beloved film premiered — and amid chatter of a third film.
On Tuesday, November 18, Skarsgård, 74, and Brosnan, 72, posed for photos ahead of the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2025. Skarsgård, who played Bill Anderson, donned an all-black look for the event, while Brosnan, who played Sam Carmichael, opted for a black-and-white striped suit with a white undershirt and black tie.
In the 2008 musical film featuring ABBA songs, Amanda Seyfried starred as Sophie Sheridan, a young woman preparing for her wedding who sets out to learn who her biological father is. Meryl Streep played her mother, Donna, who identified three men as potential fathers: Sam, Bill, and Harry Bright (Colin Firth). They also co-starred in the 2018 prequel film, Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again.
During an April 2025 sit-down with ETalk, Brosnan responded cryptically to a question about a potential third movie.
“I wish I could tell you about Mamma Mia! 3,” he said. “Everyone wants to do it. I think there’s space, and there’s energy, and there’s a desire for a third one. We’ll see.”

In a November 16 interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Governors Awards, Seyfried was asked about the third movie — which hasn’t been officially announced, although producer Judy Craymer confirmed there was a script.
“Maybe I’m just naive, but I’m pretty sure Mamma Mia! 3 is a done deal,” Seyfried, 39, said.
For the third film, the actress spoke about the possibility of portraying Sophie as a mother.
“I love portraying a mom, so I would love to see Sophie with her kids,” she told ET. “Maybe she has a cousin she hasn’t seen in a while, and that could be Sabrina Carpenter. And then Sydney Sweeney could show up. There’s a bunch of girls that really want to be a part of it, and I’m all for it.”
Seyfried continued, “I just know the three dads are going to come back, and we still won’t know who the dad is because it doesn’t matter. Meryl [Streep] is a ghost, obviously, so she’ll be around. And Julie [Walters] and Christine [Baranski] will be back singing and looking hot and we’re all going to be somewhere tropical. And ABBA will be playing.”
Hopefully, that means Skarsgård and Brosnan will reunite again soon!
