Teri Hatcher recently made a surprising confession about watching Desperate Housewives after launching a re-watch podcast featuring the popular show.
On the October 28 episode of Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s Dinner’s on Me podcast, Hatcher, 60, opened up about what it has been like for her to watch Desperate Housewives more than 10 years after it ended for her new podcast, Desperately Devoted. The podcast kicked off in September and features Hatcher, her real-life daughter, Emerson Tenney, 27, and her former on-screen daughter, Andrea Bowen, 35.
Desperate Housewives aired for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012. In the dramedy/mystery, Hatcher portrayed Susan Mayer, while Bowen played her teenage child, Julie.
“It’s so weird. You know?” Hatcher said of the ensemble cast before making her bold admission. “And the truth is, Susan was one fourth of the show, and so in a way rewatching it, it’s like rewatching a show I wasn’t in.”

To that, Ferguson agreed, sharing, “With Modern Family, the same way. I mean, a lot of people say, you know, ‘Oh, I don’t watch my show.’ And I think all of us, the entire cast of Modern Family, would always watch the show because we were fans of the other people we were working with.”
Elsewhere during Ferguson’s podcast episode, Hatcher weighed in on why she thinks fans love re-watching certain shows, including Desperate Housewives, Modern Family, Seinfeld, Friends, and more.
“They say there’s a science to if something is nostalgic to you and you know what to expect, it’s actually calming,” she pointed out. “As opposed to watching, you know, a new show that you’ve never seen challenges your stress level in a different way. And I think that’s why so many of us are rewatching stuff. You know, we keep going back to the same.”
