This Favorite ’90s Cult Film is Leaving Streaming in One Week
If you’ve been meaning to rewatch Empire Records, now’s the time. The 1995 cult favorite is officially leaving Netflix on October 23, 2025, and as of now, it doesn’t seem to be available anywhere else. That means fans will have to dust off old DVDs or hope it makes a quick return to another platform soon.
For anyone who grew up in the ’90s, Empire Records is now very nostalgic. The entire story unfolds over one unpredictable day as a group of young record store employees attempt to save their beloved shop from being bought out by a corporate chain. The film stars Liv Tyler, Renée Zellweger, and Rory Cochrane, and has a soundtrack that felt like the ultimate mixtape of the decade.

It is not the only ’90s favorite exiting this month from Netflix. Good Burger, the comedy starring Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell is also leaving. Adam Sandler fans will want to catch Billy Madison and Big Daddy before they disappear. Plus, Wayne’s World and Wayne’s World 2, not to mention A Night at the Roxbury, American Pie, American Pie 2, Dazed and Confused, Rudy and the entire Rush Hour trilogy will be gone too.
With Empire Records nearing its 30th anniversary, it feels especially bittersweet to see it pulled from streaming. If you have been waiting for just the right time to revisit “Rex Manning Day,” you only have a week left to make it happen. This is also a good reminder that your favorite movies can be pulled from streaming services or switch to different ones at the drop of a hat. It is always great to rent from the library or buy your favorite movies in physical format.
