The Best ‘Bewitched’ Halloween Episodes to Watch This October

Most classic 1960s sitcoms, like I Dream of Jeannie or The Andy Griffith Show, produced only one spooky ooky Halloween episode. But Bewitched had a whopping five special Halloween episodes — though perhaps that’s to be expected of the first show to bring witches to the small screen.

Though Samantha and Endora engaged with the supernatural every week, these five episodes dealt specifically with Halloween — making them the perfect thing to throw on as you decorate the house, work on your costume, or use your magical powers to summon spirits from beyond.

When Did Bewitched Start Doing Halloween Episodes?

Bewitched began producing special Halloween episodes at the very start — the show’s first Halloween episode is the seventh episode of the series overall. The first four seasons have an annual Halloween episode; the tradition is skipped in the fifth season, returns in the sixth, and then was dropped for the rest of the show’s run.

There was also a Halloween episode of Tabitha, the spinoff show chronicling the life of an adult Tabitha Stephens, which ran for one season in 1977. Unfortunately, that series is not streaming, and so you probably won’t be able to watch its Halloween special, “Halloween Show,” this October. However, its worth knowing that the show did keep up on of Bewitched‘s classic themes — in the episode, Tabitha’s love interest makes a coven of witches so angry, they turn him into a werewolf.

The Witches Are Out” (Season 1, 1964)

Darrin lands a job working on an ad campaign for Halloween candy — but Samantha is offended that the candy company wants to use an ugly cartoon witch in its ads, instead of a youthful, foxy witch like her. She and her fellow conjurers protest the ads — and use their special powers to get the candy exec to see things their way.

Trick or Treat” (Season 2, 1965)

The future Marcia, Marcia, Marcia herself, Maureen McCormick, appears in this episode as young Endora — or rather, the child that Endora disguises herself as, so she can get the jump on Darrin. Darrin has invited Endora’s displeasure by asking Samantha to stay home and help him entertain a client on Halloween, rather than traveling with Endora to a sacred annual ceremony for witches. Endora takes it well, realizing that life is about compromise — just kidding, she turns Darrin into a werewolf for revenge.

Twitch or Treat” (Season 3, 1966)

Endora throws her annual Halloween party at the Stephens residence and invites all her freaky friends — what could go wrong? A lot, especially after Gladys Kravitz calls in a complaint to the city.

A Safe and Sane Halloween” (Season 4, 1967)

Tabitha accidentally flexes her own powers when she brings three characters from a storybook into the real world. Of course, if you’re going to transport three imaginary beings to our plane of reality, Halloween is the day to do it! Nobody notices the little snafu … until Mrs. Kravitz’s nephew gets turned into a goat.

To Trick or Treat or Not to Trick or Treat” (Season 6, 1969)

BEWITCHED, Elizabeth Montgomery (left), Dick Sargent (2nd to left), 'To Trick-Or-Treat or Not To Trick-Or-Treat', (Season 6, aired Oct. 30, 1969), 1964-72.

Once again, the issue of ugly witches in Halloween advertising rears its head — this time around, the business owner who wants Darrin to slap an old, scary witch on his ad is married to the head of the local Trick or Treat for UNICEF campaign chair, a campaign that Samantha is involved with. Naturally, Endora is offended, and chaos ensues. Can Samantha make everyone happy and help collect those quarters and dimes for charity?

Where Can You Watch Bewitched’s Halloween Episodes?
