Nestled in the quiet neighborhood of Simi Valley, you and your friends can rent a 2,400-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath home with a large swimming pool, fire pit, and spa in a charming abode that feels both cozy and oddly familiar.

Enjoy a spacious patio that opens onto a large pool, a full BBQ setup, a children’s room stocked with games, and a fully equipped kitchen with every modern convenience, along with an unusual set of rules that every new resident is expected to follow. While many of the guidelines are what you’d expect from a typical Airbnb, such as quiet hours, restricted spaces, and the like, a few of the rules are a bit more…alarming:

Ghost hunting is not permitted without a written agreement. Ouija boards, séances, spirit summoning, or dark rituals are strictly prohibited, reads the rules on the site.

In addition to the strict policies against “dark rituals,” some of the décor might feel unsettling (or charmingly reminiscent, depending on your relationship to the original film). The kitchen floor is marked up with tape showing arrows and directional placements of psychic activity, the TV is tuned to a static-filled channel, and the children’s bedroom comes equipped with a grinning, demented clown doll perched in the corner.

Welcome to the Poltergeist House, which cinephiles and horror aficionados can rent for a limited time for a night or two. If they dare.

The house was the filming location for 1982’s Poltergeist, directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film followed the Freeling family as they began to experience disturbances in their planned neighborhood of Cuesta Verde. After malevolent spirits abducted their youngest daughter, Carol Anne (Heather O’Rourke), into another dimension through the television, a clown and a tree attacked their son Robbie (Oliver Robins), and their pool began to sprout corpses, father Steven (Craig T. Nelson) realized that the real estate company had built their neighborhood on top of a cemetery, moving only the headstones and leaving the bodies behind. The spirits then exacted their revenge.

Last year, the property sold for $1.28 million, and the new homeowners spared no detail in restoring the Freeling home to its original grandeur. From the Atari 2600 in the living room to a kitchen designed to mirror the moment when mom Diane (JoBeth Williams) discovers that objects can slide across the linoleum floor when placed just right, every detail has been recreated. The bedrooms look identical to those in the film, complete with a sinister clown doll and posters of Darth Vader and cheerful cows. And in the living room, a large console television hums with static.

There are a few changes. The Northridge Earthquake demolished the original staircase, so the new staircase was built up to code and does not match the film. The spooky tree is nowhere to be seen. And the pool is now finished and corpse-free (though a few skeletons are hanging by the fire pit).

The iconic house can be yours at a starting price of about +$1k to $2k a night, with some stays requiring a two-night minimum, though the prices do fluctuate. Please check the site for full details on prices. Just follow the rules, respect the property and those forces that reside within it, and enjoy yourself. After all, it is just a movie, right?
