Where Can You Watch the Original ‘Hand That Rocks the Cradle’ Before the New Remake?
When The Hand That Rocks the Cradle premiered in January 1992, it quickly became one of the most talked-about thrillers of the decade. Starring Rebecca De Mornay as the seemingly perfect nanny with a chilling hidden agenda, the film — which also starred Annabella Sciorra, Matt McCoy and Julianne Moore — tapped into every parent’s worst nightmare and became a box office hit in the process, earning over $80 million and cementing its place as a ‘90s classic. Now, more than 30 years later, the story is getting a fresh update on Hulu, starring Maika Monroe, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Raúl Castillo; but before the reboot drops on October 22, 2025, find out how you can still catch the original.

Buena Vista Pictures/Everett Collection
So, how can you watch both? The original The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is not currently streaming for free in the U.S., but it is available to rent or buy on platforms like Apple TV, Amazon and Fandango at Home. Prices typically range from four dollars for a rental, with digital purchase options available for those who want to add it to their collection.
It is unknown if the original film will be added to Hulu’s streaming offerings closer to the release date.
As for the reboot, it will stream exclusively on Hulu, beginning October 22, just in time for the Halloween season. If you want to revisit the original before diving into the new take, renting or buying digitally is your best bet. Hopefully Hulu adds the original to its library soon so fans can watch both versions and compare.
