‘Who’s the Boss’ Star Tony Danza Shocks Onlookers With Surprise Street Performance (Again)
The true joy of New York is that, with its reputation as a city where anything can happen, sometimes it does. Repeatedly. One minute you’re rushing to the subway or to your Uber, the next a random celebrity is stealing the spotlight on a street corner, singing for their supper.
And sometimes, more often than not, that person is Tony Danza.
On September 14, the beloved sitcom star best known for playing characters named Tony throughout the ’70s and the ’80s, was spotted performing on the streets of NYC. Backed by a complete jazz band, the former Who’s the Boss and Taxi star sang the classic crooner standard “Mack the Knife” to passersby.

TikTok user Rachel Collins posted a video of Danza singing his heart out to fans with a caption on the video: “Hold me closer Tony Danza,” a reference to the often misheard lyrics of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer.”
“I have said this my whole life when I sing that song,” agreed a fan about the caption. To which the original poster responded, “I mean one must!!”
The caption under the video read: “Just another Sunday in New York City. #tonydanza #nyc #newyork”
“Well, he’s having fun,” wrote one reactor to the video.
This was not the first time Mr. Danza has used the streets of New York as his personal stage. Last July, Danza was spotted covering Steve Allen‘s classic “This Could Be the Start of Something Big” in front of Manny’s Bistro on the Upper West Side. Once again backed by several musicians, the performance was posted to TikTok by user Eliable with the caption “He’s the boss!”

Two years ago, Danza was caught on video singing “Mack the Knife” at Manny’s Bistro by user thingsiseeinNYC, making the most recent performances a full circle moment for anyone who caught his previous engagements.
