‘Halloween’ Star PJ Soles Reveals Her Grandkids Haven’t Seen Her Horror Classic
If you’ve felt that late-summer chill in the air, you know that autumn is right around the corner—and it’ll soon be the season when you look over your shoulder to make sure “The Shape” isn’t there. But not if you’re one of P.J. Soles‘s grandchildren, because apparently, they haven’t seen the original Halloween.
Soles, 75, played Lynda Van Der Klok in John Carpenter‘s 1978 slasher masterpiece, a friend of Jamie Lee Curtis‘s Laurie Strode. Being that Strode helped develop the “Final Girl” trope, it’s not that big of a spoiler to say that Soles’s Lynda doesn’t have a happy ending.
Maybe that’s the reason why her grandkids haven’t seen the movie yet. Soles revealed this on Aug. 18, after taking her family to Midsummer Scream, the Halloween and Horror Convention in Long Beach, California.
The actress wrote on Instagram, “Family time at @midsummerscream on Sat. Such a fun time! My grandkids have not seen HALLOWEEN, but they know Michael Myers & were excited to meet [Nick Castle], who is the nicest scary guy ever!”

Castle, 77, has the distinction of portraying Michael Myers, aka “The Shape,” in the original Halloween. Castle’s breathing was also used again in 1981’s Halloween II, the 2018 reboot and the sequels—Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.
Soles shares a son (Sky, born 1983) and daughter (Ashley, born 1988) with her third husband, now-retired pilot Skip Holm. They were married from 1983 to 1998. Before that, Soles was married to actor Dennis Quaid (1978-83) and singer-songwriter Steven Soles (1973-75).
Before she met Michael Myers in Halloween, Soles made her mark in horror history as Norma Watson in Brian De Palma’s Carrie. Afterwards, Soles portrayed Riff Randell in Rock N’ Roll High School before joining the armed forces—sorta. She starred opposite Goldie Hawn in Private Benjamin and Bill Murray and Harold Ramis in Stripes.
But with roles in Candy Corn, Killer Therapy, The Devil’s Rejects and cult black comedy Jawbreaker, Soles is a scream queen for the ages. If only her grandkids knew.
