It’s almost time to head back to Sunnydale, and Sarah Michelle Gellar gave fans the first look at the highly anticipated revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

On July 22, Sarah posted a pair of photos on social media taken from what appears to be the table read for the upcoming Hulu series. In the first photo, Sarah, 48, showed her name card (which featured her full name, recognizing her 20+ year marriage to Freddie Prinze Jr.). Yes, she will be reprising the role of “Buffy Summers,” the blonde vampire hunter who fought all sorts of supernatural beasties for over seven seasons on The WB/UPN.

Gellar’s second photo was a bit more of a tease, if you can imagine that: along with a classic Buffy action figure, the pic showed the front page of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s script. The actual title of the revival series is blacked
out.

Sarah Michelle Gellar captioned the post, “Baby steps.”

Naturally, this tease had fans going wild in the comments section. Snooki of Jersey Shore fame shared a GIF that expressed her excitement. Actress Jessica Marie Garcia wrote, “We desperately needed a win as a society. Thank you for your service.” And the official Hulu Instagram account wrote, “Literally slaying.”

Along with Gellar, the upcoming series will include Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new slayer opposite Buffy. Armstrong’s character is described as an introverted high school student. Chloé Zhao, who won the Best Director Academy Award for Nomadland, will direct the pilot.

While Buffy The Vampire Slayer veered towards heavy drama towards the end of its initial run, Sarah Michelle Gellar told Vanity Fair that this upcoming series will be “lighter” and that they’ll “find a balance between new and old characters.”

She also said she’d love to “bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”
