Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans, rejoice! As reported by Variety, Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play her iconic title character in an untitled project at Hulu. Although it will focus on a new slayer and Gellar will only appear in a recurring role rather than leading the show, the sequel series is sure to draw fans of the original 1997-2003 teen drama.

Original showrunner and director Joss Whedon will not be coming back to run the series, so the show may be quite different from its predecessor. Instead, sisters Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman (who are most well known for showrunning the recent Peacock series Poker Face) are attached to write, showrun and executive produce this untitled project. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman.

Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram today to announce her enthusiasm and support for the new series, saying: “I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit ‘Buffy’ and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.”
