‘Sound of Music’ 60th Anniversary Reunion: Surviving Von Trapp Kids Talk Lasting Bond

Five of the surviving von Trapp children recently reunited to celebrate 60 years since the release of the iconic movie The Sound of Music. The child stars, now all grown up, have remained friends for decades and opened up in Florence, Italy about their friendship and working on the film so many years ago. Kym Karath, who played the youngest von Trapp sibling, Gretl, shared photos of the group on social media.
Karath was seen with Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta) and Debbie Turner (Marta). Sadly, a few of their onscreen siblings including Heather Menzies-Urich, who played Louisa and Charmian Carr, who played eldest sibling Liesl, have passed away.

Karath shared with Fox News Digital about the fun reunion, “Celebrating together in Florence with all my film siblings was a complete delight. Being together, the five of us, in one of the most beautiful cities, Florence, and appearing in the breathtaking historic theater Teatro Niccolini, built in 1648, was absolutely magical. The press was wonderful, and the fans were overwhelmingly warm and enthusiastic.”
She added about the cast’s friendship over the years and said, “I think the secret behind our friendship is the secret of all enduring friendships, although ours started at a film studio; staying close, loyal, and being there for one another.”
So, why were they in Florence together? Turns out they were enjoying a trip but also working on a documentary. Karath confirmed that they filmed it while they were in Florence together but did not share any additional details about the new doc. Stay tuned for more details as they come out!
