What Is Susan Lucci Up to Now, 26 Years After Finally Winning an Emmy?

If you’re a soap opera fan, then you almost definitely remember Susan Lucci‘s love-to-hate character Erica Kane on the long-running soap All My Children … and you may also remember Lucci’s long-running losing streak, which saw her nominated for a Daytime Emmy 18 times without a win — and finally taking one home, on the 19th try.
Today is the anniversary of Lucci’s first and only Daytime Emmy win at the 26th Daytime Emmy Awards on May 21, 1999. The announcement was made at the ceremony by actor Shemar Moore, who famously declared, “The streak is over … Susan Lucci!” Though she has not won any more acting Emmys since, in 2023, Lucci was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
So what has she been up to? Despite battling some serious health problems and having two heart operations over the last decade, quite a lot!
Writing a memoir

Lucci has written a new memoir, La Lucci, which is scheduled to be released on Feb. 3, 2026, and promises to be an “intimate glimpse” into her life. It is currently available for pre-order. She also wrote and published a memoir in 2011 called All My Life: A Memoir.
She shared on Instagram about her new book: “15 years after my first book was released, I’m back to share new chapters in my life with my new memoir La Lucci. It’s an intimate glimpse into my life, with stories I’ve never told before. This book is directly from my heart. I can’t wait for you to read it.”

In early 2025, Lucci performed in the off-Broadway play My First Ex-Husband, created by The View‘s Joy Behar. It had a rotating cast and Lucci was in the production for four weeks, with her last performance in March.
Starring in a new film
Lucci is listed as part of the cast of the upcoming dark comedy film Outcome, directed by Jonah Hill and starring Keanu Reeves, Hill and Cameron Diaz. The film, which follows a former actor named Reef Hawk (played by Reeves) whose life is turned upside down when someone begins to blackmail him, is currently in post-production and is expected to debut on Apple TV+. Her last major acting gig was in the 2013 soapy Marc Cherry series, Devious Maids.

After serious health problems involving her heart, Lucci has been vocal about heart health awareness for women and maintaining a heart-healthy diet. She even appeared as a guest diner on an episode of the reality cooking competition series Hell’s Kitchen in 2025, contributing on behalf of the American Heart Association.
More All My Children?
Even though the show is over, Lucci has a never-say-never attitude about stepping back into Erica’s shoes, especially if AMC scribe Lorraine Broderick (who now writes for Days of Our Lives) is involved.
“I would always leave the door open,” Lucci told us in a 2017 interview. “I miss Erica Kane, and I miss my All My Children family. I did All My Children and Broadway at the same time — eight shows a week. And I could never say the door is closed and turn my back on All My Children or Erica Kane. I’d want to be in the hands of someone that ‘gets it.’ Then truly I would listen to anything they had to say to me.”
