77-year-old Tommy James recently stopped a concert about an hour in due to health issues. Reportedly, the singer halted the show at the Showroom at the Golden Nugget casino on Friday, March 7, due to “exhaustion” after struggling to breathe onstage. He began breathing heavily and tried to sit down during his performance of his 1968 hit “Do Something to Me,” shortly before his encore.

Carol Ross, James’ representative, explained that he had suffered from “exhaustion from a long flight, sound check and the show all in one day.” Luckily, she added, “He is fine now and back home in New Jersey.”

It doesn’t appear that this setback has affected the rest of the tour as his next scheduled performance is on March 15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to his website. He will continue to tour through the year and will be back at the same Las Vegas venue on October 17.

During his long career, James has released 12 solo albums. He also released eight albums with Tommy James and the Shondells after starting the band when he was just in his teens. Their hit song “Crimson and Clover” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1969 and was later covered by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts in 1982. In recent years, James became host of weekly radio program Gettin Together with Tommy James on Sirius XM Radio channel 73, ’60s Gold.

Last year, James spoke about his long career and the ability to tour. “I look at my career and I see how I’ve been so blessed in so many different ways,” he said. “And that’s really the truth. The idea of actually doing what I love doing for this long, and the fans moving right along with me.” In addition to the tour, he is reportedly working on a biopic based on his autobiography Me, the Mob and the Music.
