Andy Gibb’s Love Life: The Famous Women Who Stole His Heart

MALIBU, CA - JUNE 1 : Andrew Rob Gibb, known as Andy Gibb was a British singer, songwriter, performer, and teen idol. He was the youngest brother of the Bee Gees: Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. “I definitely have a sexual ego thing. But if I’m suggestive, it’s in a nice way. Luckily, no one’s ever been hurt. A few girls have passed out, that’s all.” So, apparently, said pop star Andy Gibb. But while Gibb’s famous girlfriends may have emerged relatively unscathed from their romances, Gibb himself got attached quickly and suffered break-ups badly. So it’s little wonder that his love songs “Everlasting Love,” (Love is) Thicker than Water,” and “I Just Want to Be Your Everything,” plus lovelorn ballads such as “(Our Love) Don’t Throw it All Away” and “Desire,” can still pack a punch.

Who were the famous women Andy Gibb dated? Let’s take a look.

Marie Osmond

When two showbiz dynasties collide, the romance is bound to make headlines. Andy and Marie Osmond were, as she put it, “very dear” to each other. While the exact timing of their relationship is unclear due to the Osmond family’s insistence on personal privacy, it likely happened not long after Andy’s divorce from Kim Reeder.

From the start, no one expected it to last. “He was doing tons of drugs, and she didn’t even drink Coca-Cola,” record producer Albhy Galuten told author Bob Stanley in Stanley’s 2024 book The Story of the Bee Gees: Children of the World. Marie’s family disapproved, and the relationship came to a dramatic end when Andy bombarded her with phone calls, leading the Osmonds to take legal action.

Still, Andy later credited losing Marie as a wake-up call that pushed him to get clean — though, as ever, his sobriety wouldn’t last long.

Susan George

Actress Susan George, best known for Straw Dogs (1971) and Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974), had a brief but intense fling with Andy after they appeared on the same TV show. Despite being eight years older than Andy, she was drawn to her fellow Brit’s charm.

Unfortunately, by then, Andy’s personal struggles were spiraling. According to Stanley’s book, Andy spent much of his and George’s time together lying in bed, staring at the mirrored ceiling and playing with guns. Like Osmond, George soon moved on.

Tai Babilonia

The entire world was in love with knockout professional ice skater Tai Babilonia when she and her partner, Randy Gardner, wowed the world at the 1979 Winter Olympics and in their many performances with the Ice Capades.

But the young Babilonia, who thought she’d found true love with The Brady Bunch star Christopher Knight, moved on to Gibb after their relationship ended. Tai told Los Angeles Beat that Andy asked her out when they both appeared on a Bob Hope special, and that she found the singer “almost too sweet for the world he was in at the time.” Though their romance was short-lived, Tai credited Andy with teaching her valuable lessons about handling fame and the power of publicity.

Victoria Principal

Of all Andy’s relationships, his romance with Dallas star Victoria Principal was the most high profile. They met in 1981 on The John Davidson Show and were instantly smitten. Even Andy’s most lovestruck fans couldn’t resist the charm of the pair’s endless parade of loved-up photos. But behind the scenes, Andy’s drug problems were worsening.

At the time, buoyed by Principal’s affections, Andy was set to host Solid Gold and landed roles in touring stage productions of The Pirates of Penzance and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. His addiction cost him all three jobs.

Andy and Victoria recorded a duet, “All I Have to Do is Dream,” which became his final single, reaching No. 51 on the charts. But Victoria soon gave him an ultimatum: their relationship or the drugs. He opted to leave, and the regret haunted him for the rest of his short life.

Pam Dawber

Rumors swirled that Andy also dated his Pirates of Penzance co-star, Mork & Mindy actress Pam Dawber. Both were going through rough career patches at the time: Mork‘s ratings were in a spiral, and Andy’s music career had stalled.

Briefly buoyed by his romance with Principal, Andy again turned to drugs to deal with his lacking confidence and lost both Principal and his role in Penzance. Like all of his past romantic interests, Dawber knew that Andy was really a sweet-natured and easily wounded soul. On Andy’s posthumous episode of VH1’s Behind the Music, Dawber said she kept their connection, hoping to help Andy again turn back from his worsening addiction. Despite her efforts, she couldn’t pull him out of his downward spiral.

Andy Gibb’s love life was as passionate as his love songs and also as heartbreaking. Though “the Baby Bee Gee” was adored by many, his struggles with addiction destroyed his voice, his career and his romances, leaving behind a legacy of love and loss, and his friends, family and entertainment execs wondering what could have been.
