Isabella Rossellini is celebrating her first Oscar nomination after working for over four decades. She received the Oscar nomination on Thursday for her supporting role as a Vatican nun in Conclave. Rossellini is the daughter of actress Ingrid Bergman and filmmaker Roberto Rossellini.

Bergman is often called one of the greatest actresses of all time and won three Oscars during her long career. Now, Rossellini’s nomination comes the same year as the 50th anniversary of her mother’s win for Murder on the Orient Express.

The 72-year-old has made her own mark in Hollywood after following in her mother’s footsteps and has appeared in films such as Blue Velvet, Death Becomes Her, Fearless, Two Lovers and Immortal Beloved. She’s also appeared on television in shows such as Julia and 30 Rock.

In addition, she is known for making a series of short films about the mating of animals and insects called Green Porno on the Sundance Channel. She was approached by the network to produce something with an “environmental” theme.

She shared about her idea, “My love for animals is the one thing that has led me to discover about the difficulties that they have in the wild. And the love for the animal is not only cuddly pets, but it’s also the interest in the incredible, funny ways that these creatures conduct their lives. That’s when I thought of the sex life of bugs, because it [would be] very unusual and quite scandalous, if they were human.”

Find out if Rossellini wins her first Oscar on March 2, 2025, at 7pm ET on ABC or Hulu.
