Turner Classic Movies Celebrates Actor George Raft Tuesdays in January 2025 Beginning at 8pm ET all month long.
The actor/dancer who was born George Ranft but became more renowned professionally as George Raft, one of the more stylish of the screen’s leading men in the 1930s and ’40s, is celebrated each Tuesday night on Turner Classic Movies with lineups of his most memorable films.
Tuesday, Jan. 7 – Begins at 8pm

Many of the titles are the crime melodramas in which Raft became associated with playing gangsters, including the one that begins this month’s lineup on Jan. 7: 1932’s Scarface, in which Raft stars alongside Paul Muni, who plays the title character. Among the other highlights that evening is You and Me (1938), an odd crime drama/romantic comedy directed by Fritz Lang that pairs Raft with Sylvia Sidney.
Tuesday, Jan. 14 – Begins at 8pm

The Jan. 14 lineup features a couple more of Raft’s more famous films: the gangster movie Each Dawn I Die (1939), costarring James Cagney, and They Drive by Night (1940), a film noir also featuring Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino and Humphrey Bogart.
Tuesday, Jan. 21 – Begins at 8pm

Highlights of the Jan. 21 lineup include Background to Danger (1943), a spy thriller costarring Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre, and Johnny Angel (1945), a noir also featuring Claire Trevor and Hoagy Carmichael.
Tuesday, Jan. 28 – Begins at 8pm

The final night, Jan. 28, features Raft favorites like Johnny Allegro (1949), a noir with the star as the title character alongside Nina Foch; Red Light, another 1949 noir, this one with Virginia Mayo, Gene Lockhart and Raymond Burr; and Some Like It Hot (1959), the classic Marilyn Monroe/Tony Curtis/Jack Lemmon-led comedy in which Raft pokes some fun at his longtime gangster character image.
