Christmas is full of magic, as evidenced by the amazing story Jean Kasem told about first meeting her husband, Casey Kasem, which she shared during The Hollywood Museum Tree Trimming event earlier this month.

Check out the full video below, and read on to learn more about how Jean and Casey first connected.

In Jean’s all-time favorite Christmas memory, it was 1979, and she was working at the Charles Duren Agency as their delivery person, trying to break into show business. She was running out to deliver the company’s Christmas presents, hands full with gifts, headshots, and resumes. She bumped into a man, and everything fell onto the floor. They both looked at each other, and there was an electric connection between them. She had never felt that electric energy before.

The man asked if she was going to the company Christmas party, and she informed him that she was not. He told her he was going, though actually, he hadn’t been planning to go, either — so after delivering his presents to his agents, he went home and retrieved his invitation from the trash. Jean arrived late to the party, saw him, and thought he was “beautiful.” They talked together at the party as if no one else was there. Their conversation continued into the night and the morning. They dated every day after that, and got married a year to the date they met. Yes, it was Casey Kasem, the love of Jean’s life.

This Christmas love story lasted for 34 years. The couple got married on December 21, 1980, and were together until June 15, 2014, when Casey passed away.

Jean Kasem is best known for her appearance as the Tall Lady at the Party in Ghostbusters and Loretta Tortelli on Cheers and the short-lived spin-off show The Tortellis.

Casey Kasem was best known as the co-creator and host of “America’s Top 40” (1970–1988, 1998–2004), and also voiced Shaggy in numerous Scooby-Doo TV shows.

Jean Kasem’s story is a beautiful reminder of the magic of Christmas and the power of love.
