This summer, we shared that the famous home where the 1982 film Poltergeist was filmed was up for sale, for the first time in 45 years. The home was built in 1979 and is located in Simi Valley, California and served as the backdrop of one of the scariest movies of all time. If you’re a horror movie fan and have always wanted to spend a night in the house, it seems that you may have your chance very soon.

The home was officially sold for $1.28 million, around $100,000 over the asking price. The new owners are reportedly planning to renovate the home so it looks just like the film set and will list it on Airbnb for fans to rent. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until next Halloween season. The owner said that it will not be ready this year because they want to make sure everything looks perfect.

The home is 2,373 square feet and features 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a jacuzzi and a swimming pool. While the original listing made some nods to the film, it sounds as if it was trying to assure people that it is not really haunted, but a very warm and inviting place to live. The new owners seemingly rejected that statement and hope to turn it into an ’80s horror lover’s dream. The home has changed since the ’80s, naturally, but the new owners claim that they will replicate all of the furniture and knick-knacks from the film, making it look identical.

Since the home is so famous and would attract fans, there was no open house and prospective buyers had to be pre-approved to even schedule a private tour. However, the listing did feature plenty of photos and video tours in case you’re curious! We will be sure to share the Airbnb listing and photos when it goes up, hopefully by next October.
