Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Johnny Van Zant Shares Update After Daughter’s Brain Surgery
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Johnny Van Zant opened up to fans about his youngest daughter, Taylor, after the band canceled several shows because Taylor had to undergo emergency surgery.
In a video, Van Zant shared that Taylor had been diagnosed with a cavernomas, or cerebral cavernous malformation, which means irregularly small blood vessels packed tightly within thin walls, which can cause blood to leak in the brain or spinal cord. Taylor had been feeling some numbness on her right side, which led the family to take her into the hospital. The visit uncovered a mass on her brain, which was causing bleeding and required emergency surgery.
Luckily, Taylor is now home and resting, and it sounds like she will be making a full recovery. Van Zant thanked fans for all of their prayers and well wishes and added, “I thank everyone so much for your concerns and sweet words since the news of my daughter came out. I am also very grateful for the fans understanding in the cancelling of shows so I could be with her. The past week has been a whirlwind of emotions but reading all your hopeful messages and comments really helped lift my spirits.”
It wasn’t all good news, however. Van Zant also shared that the band’s bus driver, Brad Gibson, was in the ICU following a scooter accident. He asked for prayers for Gibson, as well as for those affected by Hurricane Helene. Feel free to share your well wishes in the comments and watch his entire video posted on Instagram below:
