Things haven’t been smooth sailing for Journey behind the scenes of their ongoing tour. While they’ve been rocking out on stage night after night, during the day, longtime bandmates Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon have been embroiled in a legal battle over the band’s finances. Now, the legal issues are over. Cain won the lawsuit.

Schon ended up agreeing to Cain’s requests to have a third director assigned to their joint touring company, Freedom 2020. Furthermore, an announcement noted that “Mr. Schon is prohibited from unilaterally acting on behalf of the Company and all future deadlock between Mr. Cain and Mr. Schon will be broken by the vote of the Custodian.”

Cain brought the lawsuit forward after Schon reportedly began spending money recklessly, especially on tour. Cain alleged that Schon would spend over $10,000 per night and maxed out the band’s joint American Express credit card, which made it hard for the band to pay their crew.

This isn’t the first time this has happened either. Back in 2022, Cain filed a separate lawsuit against Schon, alleging that he spent over $1 million in personal expenses on the band’s credit card.

Despite the legal troubles, the band has continued to perform across the country. Their final show for the tour is set to be on September 8, 2024, in Denver. Initially, there were some shows set for the U.K. and Ireland but those were canceled, and it remains unclear if that had to do with the legal issues. However, they still have some concert dates in South America and Japan later this year.
