Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, the documentary about the life and career of the late Christopher Reeve, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is now heading to select theaters on September 21 and 25, 2024 in honor of what would have been Reeve’s birthday on the 25th.

A new trailer for the film has been shared, as well as a sneak peek on Good Morning America. In the trailer, Reeve, best known for playing Superman, can be heard talking about the 1995 accident when he fell off a horse and became paralyzed from the neck down. He said, “I ruined my life and everybody else’s. I won’t be able to ski, sail, throw a ball to Will. Won’t be able to make love to Dana. Maybe we should let me go.”

He continues, referring to seeing his wife Dana for the first time after the accident, “And then she said the words that saved my life: ‘You’re still you. And I love you.’” Reeve worked hard to recover as much as he could and was inspired to create The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to help others with spinal cord injuries. After his death in 2004, his family continues their work with the foundation.

Reeve’s son Will explained why the family felt now was the proper time to pay tribute to his famous father and share his story in a documentary. He said, “With 2024 being the 20-year anniversary of our father’s death, that felt like the right time to reintroduce him and his heroic story to the world.”

Ahead of the special release Reeve’s kids, Matthew, Alexandra and Will are sitting down with Diane Sawyer on GMA on Sept. 16 to talk about their father’s legacy.
