Bruce Springsteen Shuts Down Ongoing Rumors
Bruce Springsteen has been the victim of many rumors in recent months, namely that he is headed for retirement and that his current tour is his final farewell. During a recent show, Springsteen and his longtime E Street Band put those rumors to rest and confirmed that they will keep rocking for as long as possible.
During his Aug. 23 performance at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, he shared, “We’ve been around for 50 @#$%ing years, and we ain’t quitting! We ain’t doing no farewell tour bull@#$%! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band! Farewell to what? A thousand people screaming your name? Get the hell out. I ain’t going anywhere!”
Rumors likely began when Springsteen was forced to cancel several shows last year due to a diagnosis of peptic ulcer disease. Although it was a setback on the tour, Springsteen rescheduled dates and has seemed to be in good health during recent shows. While the current tour ends in November, it seems that it won’t be the band’s last as there are already dates for 2025.
Guitarist Steven Van Zandt also said about the tour, “I don’t see the end anywhere in sight, to be honest, especially in Europe, where we’re bigger than we’ve ever been. I think we can play every summer for evermore, man.”
Springsteen is now 75 years old and has been performing since the 1960s. Like many other musicians, he was inspired by the Beatles‘ performance on The Ed Sullivan Show and decided to buy a guitar and pursue a career in music. By the ’70s, he started playing with the E Street Band and confirmed his spot as a rock icon. In case you can’t make it to see him on tour, there is a documentary called Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band coming to Hulu and Disney+ this October.
